AQVA SAIMAA 2 REVERSE OSMOSIS SYSTEM
NEWLY UPGRADED reverse osmosis system for purifying drinking and household water from seawater. Produces 36 liters of clean drinking water per hour.
Designed and manufactured in Finland.
Easy to install, operate, and use! The system includes all necessary components, hoses, and fittings. You only need a suitable feed pump to deliver pressurized water to the system’s pre-filter unit. A distribution pump, post-filters, and shut-off valves for the water tank are also included in the package. However, their installation (piping and connections) is not included as it falls under property plumbing.
Benefits
- Easily covers the average water consumption of a Finnish vacation home.
- Simple operation and maintenance, even for seasonal cottage use.
- Filters up to 99.9% of impurities.
- Removes even difficult contaminants such as fluoride, uranium, blue-green algae, chloride, and arsenic.
- Produces purified water into an included 185-liter tank, which acts as a buffer during peak demand.
- The tank’s water level is automatically regulated by a float switch. When water is used, the float drops and activates the booster pump to keep the tank full.
- Purification capacity: At 9 bar feed pressure and 5‰ salinity, approx. 36 liters per hour. (Salinity on Finland’s coasts typically ranges from 2–7‰ depending on the location.)
- Open structure and flexible component placement make winterizing quick and easy.
- Maintenance is simple and can often be performed without tools. All parts and components are clearly visible and accessible.
- The booster pump is installed between the pre-filter and the RO unit using easy push-fit connectors. As a separate unit, it’s easy to mount on a wall.
Purification methods
- Pre-filter removes large suspended solids.
- Activated carbon filter removes a wide range of impurities, including organic compounds, metals, odors, tastes, and gases such as hydrogen sulfide and radon.
- Polyphosphate filter protects the system and extends membrane life by converting impurities like limescale into forms that don't build up inside components.
- Reverse osmosis membranes are the core of the system, filtering contaminants extremely effectively and allowing only pure water to pass through. Impurities are flushed away with reject water.
- Post-mineralization filter adds calcium and increases pH, improving taste and freshness.
- Post-filter (a combination of fibrous activated carbon and a 0.1µm sediment filter) ensures water quality from the intermediate tank and enhances the removal of gaseous contaminants.
Filters
- Solid particles
- Turbidity and color
- Limescale
- Metals (e.g. iron, manganese)
- Heavy metals (e.g. lead, mercury, arsenic*)
- Salts (e.g. chloride, sodium, sulfates, nitrates, nitrites)
- Organic compounds (e.g. pesticides, pharmaceutical and hormone residues)
- Microbiological contaminants (e.g. bacteria, viruses, molds)
- Chlorine and chlorine compounds
- Uranium
- Gaseous contaminants (e.g. radon**, hydrogen sulfide)
* Arsenic is typically removed with over 85% efficiency, though performance may vary.
** If water contains radon, the activated carbon filter may act as a radiation source.

Technical Specifications
- Pre-filter inlet: 1" female thread
- Clean water tank outlet valve: 3/4" female thread
- Distribution pump inlet/outlet: 1" male thread
- Post-filter to distribution outlet: 1" female thread
- Must be installed in a space where possible leaks or drips won't cause damage
- The system produces more reject water than clean water. Recommended ratio: 2–3 liters of reject water per 1 liter of purified water (adjustable via the RO unit’s flush valve)
Booster Pump Specifications
- Voltage: 24 VDC
- Nominal current: 5.5 A @ 10 bar
- Nominal power consumption: 132 W
- Energy required for 36 L of clean water: approx. 132 Wh
- Example: With a 500 W seawater pump, total energy use per 36 L of water can be approx. 312 Wh
- Recommended operating pressure via booster pump: 7–9 bar (adjustable via flush valve).
- With more efficient AQVA Baltic membranes, salt removal efficiency is 95–97%, depending on water temperature, membrane usage, and feed pressure.
System Requirements
- Stable feed pressure: 2–10 bar
- Below 3 bar, clean water production may slow
- Recommended feed water temperature: 4–30°C
- Lower temps reduce flow but increase purification
- Higher temps increase flow but may reduce purity
- Refer to the “Files” tab for installation and user manuals.
Cold storage
- Winterizing the system is simple. Use the provided plugs to seal the water lines to the RO unit and store it in a warm area. First shut off the water supply, then empty the pipes and housings, and after this plug the RO unit to move it to a warm location. With this you don't need remove the RO membranes. In spring, flush the system by letting water run to the drain for approximately 30 minutes, so membranes will flush. After this the RO system is ready to use.
